Typography book Research and Sketches
After becoming more interested in the genre of typography following the last project, I have done a little bit of research with a few books. Free hand new typography by Thames & Hudson showcase many artists from around the world and interview them about how sketching and bookwork plays a role in their typographical development, but the book is also just a nice display of art. The second book Type & Typography by Phil Baines and Andrew Haslam delves deeper into aesthetics, technicalities and the beauty that type has in our lives.
After flipping through the books it inspired me to crack open an unopened set of dip pens and splash some ink into my sketchbook. I fell in love with more of the ornate typography in the books, so I decided to experiment with some circus/carnival/western Type, predominantly inspired by the graphic designer Tom Lane.
