Fear and Humanity in the uncanny valley

Fear and Humanity in the uncanny valley People being afraid is a natural biological response to an external stimuli that can be dangerous, this kept our ancestors alive as being afraid of big dangerous animals taught them to flee and not mess with them. However in todays modern age most of us don't come into contact with a huge bear in our daily life but we are still afraid by many things, this is because fear is biologically caused by experiencing something so stressful to the extent that our brains release adrenaline into our body. This either causes us to take flight and get away or stay and attempt to overpower whatever's causing distress. Horror films cause this typical biological reaction all the time, people are exposed to things that are so unreal, violent and terrifying that the brain exhibits this response of adrenaline. However not everything we see is dangerous and a threat to us yet we are still scared, here is an example: This broken doll is not dangerous or co...

What is Horror and why are things unsettling

Based on my research the content of horror can be split in to three main groups 1. Fantasy monsters composing of but not limited to; Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves etc 2. Religious/ghostly horror Curses, Exorcisms, hauntings etc 3. The third category is Terror This category uses concepts such as psychological terror and thriller to unsettle and frighten viewers. An image that is shocking to the extent that you close your eyes and still visualise it. Stephen King breaks down horror into three basic levels. The first is the revolting, disgusting imagery that horror contains and you feel so repulsed that you have to look away. The second level is called Horror , its imagery and scenes that are so unbelievable and unnatural that you struggle to even comprehend what you are looking at is even real. ...

Different formats of poster type

Doing some research into different styles of movie posters. AIDA was a concept that a poster should catch Attention, Interest, Desire and cause Action. A good movie poster should tick all these boxes. A different format of poster styles is the collage style, where it's extremely simple and broken into easy to digest pieces of information to gather plot about the movie and garner attention to see it. It usually has two characters on the image, text on the top and the bottom of the screen and a background. Another format of poster is the Logo, if a movie is well recognised enough, just having the logo be the main centre piece with attention catching type is good for movie series that have an iconic logo. Such as ghostbusters, batman, superman, jurassic park and many others. The superhero genre uses this format fairly often.
