500 Word Critical Report

Throughout this module I have really taken my poster design skills to the next level, I may not have looked into the research and histories of posters as much as I would have liked to or analyse pre existing posters. But I have been more focused on the production side of testing and trying out many different methods and approaches to crafting a poster. I reflect upon the posters I have made so far and the absolute most successful are the Blair witch screen print, The Last Of Us mixed media and The Town That Dreaded Sundown mixed media also. With these posters I really put my knowledge of what elements and factors I can manipulate in crafting the perfect image. The use of text are very unique in each one, wether its reserved like the last of us, or jagged and intimidating like Blair Witch they are all successful in their own way. Blair Witch Poster Prints

Here are some shots of a few different prints that I made. Overall I really Like this print, the text to image is so well interlaced into each other, and is very clear to read which is a key skill I have been developing consistently throughout this module. The black grain along the page gives a very nice low tech feel to the overall image, the jagged typeface does a good job of cutting into the page space.

Blair Witch Poster development

Here are the stick effigies I tied together using sticks from out and about Worcester, using twine to fit in with the low budget naturalistic theme. Here are the shots of the effigy that I used a threshold filter over the top on to create the screen layers, it gives a nice stippled black dotted layer that sits upon the page.

Blair Witch Project Thumbnail and Sketchbook Work

Blair Witch Project is one of my favourite indie horror films, I really admire the low tech cinematography and the media type of filming really reflects well on the subject of found footage. I focused a lot on the stick effigy used in the film, it's an immediately recognisable icon from the film and has quite a striking look to it. These thumbnails are all toward a screen print poster

The Last Of Us Poster

The Last Of Us Poster Final I adorned the top of the head with flowers, almost to jux ta pose beauty with the creepiness of the face, using pure line was a great choice in showing nasty details, colouring the areas individually helps show a clear communication of the image. The Text used for the title may look a little basic but I thought i'd approach this with a calm and professional typeface that shows beauty in the madness of the image. It was originally one long line, but after review, decided it was better to cut into two lines.

The Last Of Us Clicker drawing

Printing off the strongest thumbnail that I drew, I used a light box and a pen to produce a strong purely line drawing interpretation of a clicker, communicating all of the gorey little details, scratches, growths and marks that I could with just line. Nailing the break in the gums was imperative in creating a shocking look in the face, at is the most disturbing factor of the face before the fungal growths actually on the head.
