London Transport Posters

London Transport Posters London underground became a big adapter of the early successful poster form at the turn of the 20th century, from the success of the french poster printing becoming more advanced with their stone lithography process being ahead of its time thanks to artists like Jules Cheret, the father of the modern poster. Some of the earliest posters designed were for posters of areas where stations where first built showcasing how beautiful the areas are and why people should go there. As seen below this poster showcases how picturesque Golders Green is in 1912, the underground title on the top of the posters letters are in the tile format that the underground walls, itself are made of. Negotiated Project Research Question

An investigation into effective poster design This will be my starting research statement, I want to look into how intricate, complex posters convey information to the viewer? What semiotics do the images use that it expects the viewer to already pre-know? How do things like colour change the tone of an image and why it's so vital in things such as moods and settings? Looking at different genres of poster design such as minimalist film posters, music posters and advertisements I plan to analyse the subject in depth to better understand the process of constructing a visually striking image that contains a purpose of showing information Analysing pre existing posters will help better understand what goes in to the process of designing a poster, also looking at bad poster design and why it's ineffective in its purpose of conveying a message and what the designers could've done to better produce a more catching image.
